Objecting to the Bypass Plans

How to Object | Additional Information | View the documents |

All objectors have until the 5th May to write to the Secretary of State for Transport. Following the public consultation period a Public Inquiry will be held in front of an Independent Inspector. The decision to proceed with the scheme will be taken after the Secretary of State for Transport has considered the Inspector's Report.

How to Object

Your letter or e-mail should be headed: OBJECTION TO THE A628 MOTTRAM-TINTWISTLE BYPASS

Letters should be sent to: The Secretary of State for Transport
The Highways Agency, City Tower, Piccadilly Plaza, Manchester M1 4BE

Send your objection via e-mail to:

For information to help you write your letter, download the Action Alert! notice which summarizes some of the main points from the Environmental Statement or send the Standard Objection Letter. Use this if you haven't got time to write or as a guide for your letter. Individually written letters carry more weight with the Inspector, though.

If you live in Mottram and don't want to write your own letter you can download the Standard Objection Letter (Mottram). This is similar to the Standard Letter but focusses on a few issues specific to the Mottram area.

Additional Information

This section contains additional information based on the Environmental Statement published with the Line Orders.

  • Traffic Forecasts (Mottram). This spreadsheet shows information extracted from the Environmental Statement published by the Highways Agency, and relates to the forecast traffic flows through Mottram.

  • Traffic Forecasts (Londgendale). These simplified diagrams show the differences in traffic flows for two scenarios: a) without the bypass vs. with the bypass; and b) without the bypass vs. with the bypass + spur.

  • Subsidence Risk. The environmental statement has raised concerns for residents in Mottram living close to the line of the cut and cover tunnel. The site provides more information on this subject.
