The Highways Agency have republished the draft Orders for the A628 Mottram-Tintwistle bypass. You have until the 30th March 2007 to send in your objection. For details see the objector and impacts sections, or contact us for more information.

Visit the wildlife pages to download forms and find out what to look for and how to report what you see on your walks.

4) Visit Swallow's Wood	Get out into the countryside and see what it is we're fighting to save by going on one of our circular walking routes.
5) Record your wildlife sightings	If you know a bit about wildlife, let us know what you see when you're walking in the area. We can then pass your records on the Cheshire Recording Office.

Deadline 24th November 2005 - Object to the Glossop Spur Planning Application
Letters are urgently needed to object to the Glossop Spur Road planning application. The deadline is 24th November 2005. If enough letters are sent in, there may have to be a public inquiry into this scheme. This is a very damaging scheme that will intersect farmland and be built across a floodplain. Tameside MBC are claiming that this road must be built alongside the A628 trunk road scheme in order for proposed Mottram-Tintwistle road to be “effective”. 01.09.05 - Write to the Peak District National Park - Support the HGV Ban
CPRE has commissioned an independent report to investigate the potential for a lorry ban on the A628. The report, compiled by independent transport professional Metropolitan Transport Research Unit (MTRU), concludes that: Government objectives to maximise use of motorways and minimise use of unsuitable roads would be met by the proposed restriction on through lorry traffic on the A628 in the National Park. Using available DfT average cost estimates for environmental values and operating costs it is clear that the benefits of such a proposal would justify the costs even without taking the special quality of the area into account. In these circumstances a more detailed proposal should be worked up for assessment and consultation. Now we need to put pressure on the Peak District National Park Authority, insisting they withdraw their support for the bypass and that they commission detailed study into an HGV ban across the National Park.
